Tips for your plants in freezing weather: When the temperature is at the freezing point, you will need to protect your outdoor plants. This can be done by covering them with blankets, a bed sheet or plastic. Tropical plants can only be covered temporarily because they will need light after two or three days. Another precaution is that the plants do not touch the plastic. By touching the plastic, they will freeze onto the plastic. Smaller plants are better brought indoors.
If your shrubbery looks like they did not survive, there still may be hope. Make sure you do not prune them for at least a week. On some foliage such as barked plants, you will need to wait to the spring prior to pruning. If you scratch a little off the brown bark and see green, there is still life. It does not matter if you pull off a few leaves. Before giving up, be sure to do your research.
